Description
The Beatles are on the run from the Blue Meanies from the graphic novel.
The 1968 animated film "Yellow Submarine," based on The Beatles' music, is re-releasing in theaters for a brief period to mark its 50th anniversary. Following this event, a graphic novel adaptation of the film, created by cartoonist Bill Morrison, is set for release on August 28.
Bill Morrison, co-founder of Bongo Comics known for “The Simpsons,” and editor of Mad Magazine, has spent two decades developing this project. He started the adaptation for Dark Horse Comics around the film's 30th anniversary but had to halt due to a failed deal. Despite initial setbacks, Titan Comics eventually secured the rights and commissioned Morrison to complete the graphic novel.
In creating the book, Morrison sought to add a unique element beyond a straightforward adaptation. He opted for a distinctive, collage-like layout in his pages, reminiscent of 1960s psychedelic posters, diverging from traditional comic book designs.
The 128-page hardcover, priced at $29.99, was a collaborative effort. Morrison's wife, Kayre, helped ensure accuracy in the film's dialogue, while the team included letterer Aditya Bidikar, inkers Andrew Pepoy and Tone Rodriguez, and colorist Nathan Kane. Kane, a colleague from Bongo, enhanced the artwork with watercolor techniques influenced by the film's original backgrounds, adding a significant artistic touch to the project.
