Description
Portrait of Paul Revere. c. 1768–1770, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Revere, a Scottish Freemason, held membership in Lodge St. Andrews, No. 81, located in Boston, Massachusetts. The Lodge still convenes in Boston, now under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, where it carries the number 4. While the exact date of Revere's initiation into the Lodge remains unknown, it occurred sometime between the Lodge's inauguration on St. Andrew's Day, November 30, 1756, and May 15, 1769.
On this later date, he was officially recorded as the Lodge Secretary in the membership register of the Grand Lodge of Scotland. Notably, Joseph Warren and William Palfrey were fellow members of the Lodge, holding the positions of Master and Senior Warden, respectively, as indicated on the same page of the records.
